Receive Free Severe Weather Alerts via E-mail, Text Message or Pager

Miami Dade County now offers a free emergency alert system enabling residents to receive e-mail, pager and text message alerts in the event of an emergency. You may sign up for this free service online and select the type of alerts you'd like to receive. Currently, the system provides automated information on severe weather watches and warnings. You may specify the ZIP code(s) of interest to you.

Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Visit the emergency alert website.
  2. Enter your contact information. You may register cell phone numbers (for text messaging), pager numbers and e-mail addresses. If you'd like to register more than one of each type, you'll need to register multiple times.
  3. Select the types of alerts you'd like to receive. You may select weather watches and/or weather warnings.
  4. Select the location(s) of interest to you. You may enter ZIP codes or select from a list of area cities.
  5. Select the language you'd like. You may choose to receive alerts in English, Spanish or Creole.
  6. Choose the time(s) you'd like to receive alerts. You may specify 24 hour alerting or provide a time window.
  7. Submit your information.
  8. Check your e-mail, phone and/or pager for confirmation messages to ensure that you're set up in the alert system. You should receive the confirmation message within a few minutes of signing up.
