King Mango StrutKing Mango Strut
On the last weekend of every year, Coconut Grove turns into a crazy place (well, crazier than usual!) when the King Mango Strut invades town. This parade began in 1982 as the Grove's offbeat response to the Orange Bowl's annual King Orange parade and you can never guess what you'll find when you attend the parade.

King Mango Strut Route

This year's parade takes place on Saturday, December 31, 2011 and kicks off at around 2PM. The parade route begins in downtown Coconut Grove on the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway.

When the strut begins, it turns left onto Main Highway and then left onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk. When they reach Commodore Plaza, they repeat the loop "until we all fall down".

Participating in the King Mango Strut

If you're considering participating in the strut, the first criteria is that you must be slightly insane (at least!). While the strut originally began as an anarchistic response to the Orange Bowl parade, it now has a bureaucracy of its own. Space constraints limit the parade to 45 groups and you'll need to plan ahead if you want to participate. Fill out the official entry form and explain to the judges how you will stand out among the wacky crowd!

If you've never seen the strut before, this is a must-add event to your holiday season itinerary. Whether you're a participant or a spectator, the King Mango Strut is sure to change your perspective on life!
