Thanksgiving in Miami

Miami's an excellent place to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. If you're looking for something interesting to do, there are a number of opportunities to celebrate the holidays and share good times with the community. Here are some of my favorite Miami Thanksgiving happenings:
  • Run a race. There's no better way to get ready for the big Thanksgiving meal than running in a race. Miami participates in this national Thanksgiving tradition by offering the BlueCross BlueShield Turkey Trot at Tropical Park. Runners may run either a 5K (3.1 mile) or 10K (6.2 mile) course. Preregistration is encouraged.
  • Share your time with those in need. Thanksgiving is a time when we all want to reach out to those less fortunate. There are plenty of opportunities available. Check out the listings on VolunteerMatch Miami and Hands On Miami for more information
  • Watch a parade. The North Miami Winternational Thanksgiving Day parade takes place at 10AM on Thursday morning and includes television and radio personalities. It's followed by the Jaycees' Winternational Festival including food, music and carnival rides.
  • Visit a museum. Miami Children's Museum hosts a Thanksgiving Tree in the lobby. Museum visitors may pick up a paper leaf and write a message of Thanksgiving on it for all to read.
