How To Get a Passport in Miami-Dade

By Renee Chapple, About.com

US Government Photo
We here in Miami do a lot of traveling out of the country. Whether we are visiting an old home and family or vacationing on an island beach, we usually need a passport to get there. Here's what you need to apply for a passport with minimum hassle.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 15 minutes + 25 days for processing (can expedite 7-10 days)

Here's How:

  1. Any Team Metro office can start the process for you. Bring with you two identical photos of youself, two inches square, with a white or off-white background. These can be taken at your Team Metro center, or at many post offices or anywhere professional photos are taken.
  2. Bring with you a current driver's license or other photo ID.
  3. Also bring proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, citizenship or naturalization certificate, or U.S Consular Report of Birth Abroad. For a complete list of accepted documents, call your Team Metro Center. ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINALS.
  4. The fees at time of publication are $70 for children 15 and younger, issued for five years; $80 for adults 16 and older, issued for ten years. For expedited processing (7-10 business days), add $60 per application.
  5. ALL applicants MUST be present.
  6. Emergency overseas travel (for illness/death) within 21 days requires an appointment with the Miami Passport Agency. This appointment can be made with the automated system on the phone at (305) 539-3600. Bring with you a letter from the hospital or funeral home.
