How To Get a Florida Learner's Permit

By Renee Chapple, About.com

Florida allows 15-year olds to obtain a learner's license that allows them to drive with a licensed adult for instructional purposes.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 3 hours

Here's How:

  1. Complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course once you have reached 15 years of age.
  2. Have a parent or legal guardian sign the Parental Consent Form in the presence of a driver license examiner or have it notarized if a parent or guardian will not be present.
  3. Visit the local License Branch office, where you'll be asked to provide the documentation listed in Things You'll Need (below) and take a written test on road rules/signs, a vision test and a hearing test.
  4. You'll receive your learner's license after passing the tests.

Tips:

  1. Check to make sure your documentation is all in order before visiting the License Branch!

What You Need:

  • Primary proof of identification (birth certificate, passport or naturalization)
  • Secondary identification (such as a school record or Baptism certificate)
  • Social Security Number
  • Proof of Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course completion
  • Parental Consent Form
