Looking for a special way to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? South Florida organizations are hosting a number of unique ways you can celebrate MLK’s impact on the United States as we celebrate MLK Day this year. Whether you prefer to participate in volunteer service, attend a ceremony or view an artistic celebration of Dr. King’s life, there’s something interesting for you. Here’s a sampling of activities:

MLK Day of Service - HandsOnMiami is sponsoring an all-morning day of service on Saturday, January 17th. Individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life will gather to paint the homes of senior citizens living in Liberty City’s public housing projects. For more information or to register, visit the HandsOnMiami website.

MLK Unity Prayer Breakfast – Florida Memorial University is hosting a community prayer breakfast featuring guest speaker Rev. Samuel Billy Kyles. More information is available from Rev. Wendell J. Paris at (305) 626-3762 or wparis@fmuniv.edu.

Keepers of the Dream Exhibit – ArtsPark at Young Circle in Hollywood is featuring a free Keepers of the Dream art exhibition featuring artwork inspired by Dr. King. For more information, visit the ArtsPark website.

If you know of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration that’s not included in this list, please send me the details.
