When you think of a library’s Internet presence, chances are that you first think of a digital version of the old card catalog system. MDPLS certainly offers this – you can view it on their website and gain real-time information on what’s in stock on the shelves of your local branch.
However, that’s not all the library has to offer. MDPLS now provides a number of free Internet resources to library patrons. They may all be access through the Digital Library site. These include:
- The Classical Music Library allows you to listen online to symphonies, operas and other works by classical composers.
- The Gale Virtual Reference Library includes encyclopedias, handbooks and reference guides in a number of disciplines.
- Learning Express eBooks help you prepare for exams and further your career by providing test preparation, resume writing and interview advice.
- The NetLibrary Audiobooks Center allows you to download fiction, history, biography, classics and language instruction titles for use on your MP3 player.
- OverDrive provides a second source of audiobooks including the same areas covered by NetLibrary with the addition of children’s books and foreign language books. These also may be downloaded to an MP3 player or burned to CD.
- The TumbleBook Library offers children and families a series of animated picture books in several languages (including English). These books include reading comprehension quizzes and games.
