Herald Reporter Cozy with Carvalho?

Sunday September 21, 2008
This morning CNN's Reliable Sources highlighted an investigation by the Miami Herald into allegations of improper conduct between one of its reporters and Alberto Carvalho, the incoming superintendent of Miami-Dade schools.

The string of e-mails between Tania Luzuriaga, a former Miami Herald education reporter, and Carvalho, included such statements as "Will you be completely offended if I leap into your arms the next time I see you?"

Anders Gyllenhaal, Executive Editor of the Herald responded that “if these e-mails are real, this violates some of the most basic rules of our profession.”

Luzuriaga is now a reporter with the Boston Globe and, according to CNN, refused to comment on the situation.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Is this a black eye for the Miami Herald? What does it say about our incoming schools superintendent? Join the discussion in our forum!
