Elian Gonzalez in the News Again

Sunday June 22, 2008
Eight years have passed since the photo at left plunged Miami and Cuban-American politics into the national spotlight. Border Patrol agents raided the Miami home of Elian Gonzalez and seized him at gunpoint, triggering a national controversy and winning the photographer a Pulitzer Prize.

Over the past week, Elian's hit the national media twice: once when the Cuban government announced that Elian joined the Cuban Young Communist Union and again when Elian's relatives staged a protest at a Barack Obama speech in Miami.

What are your views of this affair? Should Elian remain in the spotlight? What does this mean for our community? Join the forum discussion!
