FIU Slashes Budget by $32 Million; Closes Education and Other Programs

Florida International University announced significant budget cuts on Thursday that will close many academic programs and eliminate approximately 200 faculty and staff positions. These cuts hit the College of Education especially hard and will close a number of critical programs that our communitiy schools depend upon, including Math Teacher Education, Science Teacher Education and English Teacher Education. The full list of programs on the chopping block are:

- Logistics and Materials Management, BBA
- Mathematics Teacher Education, BS, MS
- Music Teacher Education, BS
- Science Teacher Education, BS, MS
- Social Science Teacher Education, BS, MS
- Technology Management, MS
- Tourism Studies, MS
- Travel and Tourism Management, BS
- Center for Economic Research and Education
- Center for Health Research and Policy
- Future Aerospace Science and Technology Center for Space
